This is kind of fun to know.
As Democrats push legislation trying to get employers to provide paid maternity and paternity leave for employees, the Huffington Post, Roll Call and the New York Times have run stories on what members of Congress offer their employees.
There’s no set policy for all members of Congress and leave is left up to individual members.
They’ve had a lot of trouble getting congressmen to respond, but some have including three who represent Northeast Pennsylvania.
The Huffington Posts says U.S. Rep. Tom Marino offers eight weeks paid maternity or paternity leave and use of vacation or sick days after that; Rep. Matt Cartwright offers 12 weeks of paid maternity or paternity leave; Sen. Bob Casey offers 12 weeks paid maternity, six weeks paid paternity and the use of sick days.
No word on what Rep. Lou Barletta and Pat Toomey do, but I’ll try to find out.
