A few notes

– The National Review, the magazine of the nation’s conservative movement, is, not surprisingly. predicting Democratic Rep. Paul E. Kanjorski’s demise in the Nov. 2 election. In this story, writer Jim Geraghty says Mr. Kanjorski’s seat is one that the Republicans should win. I’m sure Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta is happy to hear that.
– Former Nebraska Sen. Chuck Hagel, a Republican, is scheduled to endorse Democrat Joe Sestak for Pennsylvania’s Senate seat tomorrow.
He’ll do it in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, but not around here. The Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza’s has this post in his The Fix blog speculating that Mr. Hagel might be doing it out of his own self-interest.
– The United Department of Agriculture has agreed to lend Endless Mountain Health Systems $25 million to build a new, two-story, 96,000-square-foot hospital to replace its 50-year-old hospital in Montrose.
USDA Rural Development State Director Thomas Williams joined Rep. Chris Carney, D-10, Dimock Township, and Sen. Bob Casey for the announcement today.
– Pat Toomey embarked on his four-day, 23-county “more jobs, less government” bus tour today. He’s expected in Kingston at the Pierce Street Deli at 4:30 p.m. and at Arcaro & Genell’s in Old Forge at 5:45 p.m. His campaign is highlighting the increase in unemployment rates across the state since Mr. Sestak’s and Congress’ vote for President Obama’s $787 billion stimulus program.
He’s got company. The state Democratic Party is organizing local residents to show up at each of his stops to highlight Mr. Toomey’s Wall Street background. We’ll have coverage tomorrow. They’re calling their tour the “Wall Street: Mr. Toomey’s Neighborhood” tour.
